If you are over fifty and wonder when to stretch, here's a simple rule. Do you need the flexibility now or later? That choice decides when you should stretch. So ask one question do I need this motion for the thing I'm about to do? If yes, stretch now. If you want long term change, stretch towards the end of the workout when you are warmed up. This keeps things simple. By asking yourself this question, you get the flexibility you need for now versus increasing flexibility over the long term. So ask yourself, do I need the flexibility for this workout right now or this set right now? Or do I need it for later? That choice decides when you should stretch.
